In the US only 9% of plastic used actually gets recycled. This means that 91% of plastic made ends up in our oceans or in landfills, but unlike food and other things that get thrown away and discinigrates plastic can take up to1,000 years to decompose, leaving it sitting around, piling up and ruining our Earth. Specifically plastic waterbotttles take 450 years or more to decompose and plastic bags take 10-1,000 years to decompose.

Other than steel and cement, plastic is the greatest used man-made material today. Most of the plastic is actually coming from packaging!

Having plastic pile up on our Earth is not our only problem. It takes a lot of other materials to make ssingle use plastics. Every year we use 1.6 million barrels of oil just to make plastic waterbottles.
